An academic study of punk culture and political ideology formation.
What are the Punk and Political Ideology Studies?
Throughout the history of political discourse a large undercurrent of radicalized youth has influenced many theorists, activists, and scholars of political science. In particular the cultural movement of Punk has been the second longest sustaining social force of the radical community. Since the Sex Pistols sang “I am the anti-Christ I am the anarchist ” in 1976, politics and Punk have grown contiguously along the margins of political theory. Thirty years later the band Anti-Flag’s song “Depleted Uranium Is A War-crime ” brought Punk’s contribution into the mainstream political spectrum. But there has never been a comprehensive academic study on the development of political ideology through Punk culture. In seeking to better understand this topic, the Punk and Political Ideology studies are a research study of the historical record of media and published articles coupled with interviews of its participants. The goal is to learn about Punk culture and its influence on the development of political ideology, of course.
